Our next regional award winner for the month of July has been selected by our judge from Sheffield. Congratulations to Ruth Leyland from Hull Council, who had been nominated for her dedication, enthusiasm and being “the bedrock” of her team.
Our judge, Terri Mee, provided this glowing rationale behind her decision:
“Ruth has been chosen as the Social Worker of the Month for July in recognition of her unwavering passion, dedication, and exemplary practice. Her commitment to her role is evident in every aspect of her work and sets a standard of excellence that inspires both her colleagues and the families she supports.
Ruth consistently goes above and beyond, ensuring that each family receives the care and attention they deserve. Her willingness to give her own time to safeguard children’s wellbeing, and her tireless enthusiasm for the work, means no request from families is ever too great. This extraordinary commitment places children at the very forefront of all she does.
Despite carrying a high and complex caseload - including seven sets of ongoing care proceedings - Ruth continues to offer exceptional support, never hesitating to take on challenging work. Her professionalism appears to be matched by her willingness to support and guide others. She supervises three team members and routinely co-works cases with less experienced staff, fostering their growth and development with patience and expertise. Her nurturing guidance has been lauded by students and colleagues alike, increasing their confidence and competence. I read it and thought “how does she fit it all in. Described by her manager as the “bedrock” of the team - WOW.
