ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to join an enthusiastic and dedicated team within the Rotherham Learning Academy!

Due to the expansion of the Learning Academy remit, we have an exciting new Social Work Practice Consultant post. Working alongside our already established Practice Consultants, the successful candidate will be pivotal in supporting and sustaining the growth of our successful Newly Qualified Social Workers programme (ASYE). The successful candidate will be joining a progressive authority as we continue our improvement journey to become an outstanding Children’s Services.

Joining a high performing inclusive team, this post will be non-caseload carrying, providing direct support across the CYPS workforce, including non-social work posts.  You will work alongside Team Managers to support and mentor NQSWs and promote good quality social work practice. Managed outside of Locality Teams but playing a crucial role in sustaining quality and improvement, the post will be based centrally in Rotherham and is required to operate across the Borough with assigned newly qualified workers and students. Close working with the Principal Children’s Social Worker is an essential part of the role, championing evidential practice and use of research. There is a trainer element to the role and an expectation that some workforce development training will be delivered by Practice Consultants. Understanding of the DfE Social Care Reforms is an essential part of this role, in particular the requirement to support our social workers in their second year in practice.

The successful applicant will have significant experience of children and young people’s social care and child protection; demonstrate robust knowledge regarding best use of the public law outline; have experience of providing practice education to social worker students; and be fully registered with the regulator Social Work England, holding a social work qualification.

Rotherham cares about the emotional health of our staff and supports a healthy work/life balance which provides the opportunity for some home working where possible and in line with the needs of the service.  Annual leave is 29 days per FTE per year, which increases to 32 days for individuals with over 5 years’ service in local government (bank holidays are in addition to this, and there are also 3 additional concessionary days per FTE too). There is a lease car scheme available to all permanent employees which offers great value at low cost, and many sites outside the town centre offer free parking.
