Support Worker Nights (Key to your Future)

Part Time 28 hours per week (working on a Rota basis)

Permanent

Grade 6 £21,960 - £22,768 (full time equivalent) depending on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Housing & Independence Service as a Night Support worker for the new phase of the Key to Your Future Project, this is newly acquired supported accommodation.

We are looking for three experienced and motivated individuals to support our young people in Care on their road to independence.  Your role will include working nights over weekends and bank Holidays on a rota basis.

We are committed to ensuring that care experienced young people transition successfully to living independently. It is recognised that young people achieve independence at different ages linked to their cognitive ability, early life experiences, resilience and their experiences with regulated care settings. Taking this in to account we developed the Housing & Independence service which as part of this would deliver the ‘Key to Your Future Project’ in its entirety.

The ‘Key to Your Future Project’ utilises the Councils Psychological services to provide formulations of the young people prior to them starting the programme as well as a dialectical behavioural Therapy based programme, that the young people work through with staff support during their stay prior to them moving into the identified satellite accommodation which is the next phase of the project. The young people will also be completing the Key to My Future preparation for independence programme. This well-established programme that was developed collaboratively with our young people leaving care, focuses on the practical aspects of managing a tenancy and living independently. All the work they completed on the programme will be processed through to AQA’s unit award scheme for accreditation certificates.

It is hoped that the Project will fully open in April/May 2023 but you would need to be available for employment before this time to complete the training induction package.

The applicant will need:

To have experience of working with young people in and leaving care.

To be a supportive and flexible member of the team.

Some experience of therapeutic approaches and a willingness to develop the use of these in the Project

To be an innovative and creative thinker who looks for opportunities to improve the offer to our young people

Have a good understand of the pathway to Independence & Housing for young people

Understanding of how to support our young people at times of difficulty and assess risks

Good communication skills

You will embody the values of Doncaster Children, Young People & Families Directorate, and be committed to providing the best support possible for care experienced young people.
