Job description

This is an exciting time to join Barnsley Children’s Service as we’re a council that prioritises Children’s Services, and we want every child in the borough to achieve their full potential, to be safe and happy.

Because we highly value the work of our Social Workers, we’ve approved significant additional investment, creating more posts to support our Social Workers in the valuable work that they do. Additionally, we have increased the management support to Social Workers, expanding our looked after service with the creation of an additional Children In Care team which reflects our commitment to support and develop our workforce; creating smaller teams where social work practice can flourish.

As part of this expansion, we are now looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and committed professional social worker to join our stable workforce working with looked after children and young people. Could that be you?

We are aspirational for our children and as a Social Worker in our Children In Care service, you will play a crucial role in advocating for the well-being and development of the looked after children and young people you support

Your responsibilities will include:

•      Developing meaningful relationships with children and young people and ensuring that they are at the centre of everything we do.

•      Ensuring that plans for children and young people are creative, individualised and reflect the child’s voice, their hopes and aspirations and drive progress

·         Collaborating with family, carers and professionals to achieve best outcomes for children and young people and drive plans to robustly address physical, identity, emotional, and educational needs.

·         Regularly visit children in their placements to assess their safety, well-being, and progress. Support children to retain meaningful relationships with their families and wider networks

·         Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all interactions, assessments, and interventions. Prepare high-quality assessments and reports for looked after reviews, court proceedings, and other relevant purposes.

We are deeply committed to achieving the very best outcomes for looked after children and young people in Barnsley. Children and their families are at the centre of all that we do, and our practice is underpinned by a strength based and relational model. This means supporting our social workers to develop relationships and to really know and understand children; to; apply evidence-based interventions and meaningful direct work to make timely decisions and plans for children that will achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for their future.

Our recent Ofsted inspection rated Barnsley a ‘Good’ authority, with high aspirations for our children and young people. At the Children In Care service in Barnsley, we have a stable workforce and are committed to the support and development of our social workers. You will receive regular supervision, appraisal, training, and development opportunities, all aimed at promoting outcomes for children and supporting your career development and progression.
