Please note: Due to the nature of the work, it is a legislative requirement that there be a five year gap between the oldest child on site and youngest member of staff. Due to this restriction applications will be considered from those aged 21 or over.
 
We are looking to recruit a Residential Support Worker (RSW) to support children and young people with disabilities in our short breaks service. You will be working within Children and Young People’s Service, caring for young people with physical and behavioural difficulties. You will work as part of a dedicated team responsible for caring for children providing them with positive life experiences and enabling them to achieve their personal best. There is an essential element of the role which will require the worker to support/work closely with their families.

  • Ability to have fun and provide learning opportunities through; play, activities both on and off site, household tasks etc.
  • Ability to care and support children/families to build resilience and provide best outcomes for the child.
  • Ability to meet the diverse needs of our children, this includes personal care and managing children with limited communication.
  • To work effectively as part of a team and disciplined to follow advice and guidance set out by the home.
  • Ability to remain calm in challenging and crisis situations employing a solution focused approach to ensure safe and best practices are employed.
  • Ability to role model positive behaviours and choices for young people to understand and learn.
  • Ability to provide high quality of care for all service users, promoting best practice in achieving agreed goals and ambitions set out by the home.
  • Demonstrate energy, enthusiasm, motivation and adaptable to working to a high standard and contributing to a dynamic service.
  • Ability to provide emotional warmth, resilience, and can build positive, trusting and empathetic relationships with children and their families.
  • Ability to advocate for young people/families and equally represent the home and organisation professionally to high standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate good communication skills, including IT skills to be able to compile and maintain children and young people’s records, participating in all aspects of administration.
  • The role requires an individual to be flexible; available to cover shifts including evenings and weekends.
