Job description

We are recruiting two Service Manager posts  to lead and oversee our Safeguarding and Reviewing functions. The two posts will work closely together with one having management responsibility for the Child Protection Chairs and Local Authority Designated Officer services and the other for the Independent Reviewing Service. We are committed to continued improvement activity in driving strength based, relational and collaborative practice in our work with children, young people, and their family networks. Both roles also involve ensuring that safeguarding systems are in place for children and families, as well as effective quality assurance providing scrutiny and challenge of children’s plans.

You will be an experienced social work professional with substantial experience in the field of child protection and working with Looked After Children. You will also have an interest and experience in developing and constantly improving services.

At Barnsley we want to be innovative and creative in the way we work to deliver our services to our children, families, and communities.  We want to make sure that we make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people. You will lead your teams to deliver a service where children feel safe, are consulted about their concerns, are listened to, and responded to with appropriate actions. You will be focused on outcomes for children and young people ensuring that intervention in children’s lives are timely, proportionate, and impactful.

Reporting to the Head of Service you will be part of the management team. Our services are based on timely intervention and providing quality services to improve outcomes for our children and their families. A key aspect of the role is developing critical partnerships across the Council and with key partners, e.g. health, schools and the police, to deliver seamless services across boundaries.

We are looking for an experienced manager with a proven track record in managing employees, budgets and performance. You will have a strong understanding of what best practice looks like. We have a restorative, strengths-based approach to our work, ensuring that high quality relationships are at the heart of our intervention.
