Job description

We’re aspirational for our children, families and communities; relentless in our determination that all children and young people in York get ‘a better start in life’.

We currently have vacancies for Qualified Social Workers (with the opportunity to progress to Senior Social Worker) within:

  • Assessment and Safeguarding

  • Fostering

  • Children in Care

  • Permanence

  • Exploitation

Join us and help us to make the difference.

Look beyond the York that visitors see and you’ll find some of the most in-need communities in the country. We know we have some real challenges here, together with opportunities to make a real difference. That’s why we want the best. That’s why we want you.

You’re passionate, skilled, innovative and people-centred. You want and are driven to make the difference to families, to our team and for yourself. You should be a qualified social worker and be registered with Social Work England.

We know that when you make a difference in one child’s life, you make a difference for generations to come. That’s why what we do every day really matters.

We know you’re thinking about what comes next. We want you to think about York.

We want to make sure that our social workers and managers focus on making a difference and use time well. That’s why we’ve invested in a designated administration function into our social work teams to support our social workers. This pilot scheme will really help us to understand how this makes a difference to your quality time with children and families.

Of course, sitting alongside this business support will be a whole heap of digital and smart working equipment that will help you to be as mobile and agile as needs be.

You can look forward to a generous pay and reward package including:

  • Innovative, systemic practice approach within children and families case work.

  • A supportive and inclusive culture that celebrates success.

  • Manageable, monitored caseloads.

  • Supported working environment

  • Regular reflective supervision.

  • Opportunities to work in a blended, flexible and modern way to ensure that we meet children’s needs and build empowering, enabling and trusting relationships.

  • Training and development opportunities, including coaching

  • Progression opportunities

  • Strong leadership

  • Support towards NAAS accreditation

  • Competitive salaries plus relocation expenses:

Qualified Social Workers, Grade 9 (£33,812 - £38,305)

Senior Social Worker career grade 10 (£37,039 - £44,487). This will mean any Social Worker meeting the progression criteria (three years post qualifying experience and NAAS or local equivalent) can be recruited as a Senior Social Worker.

The opportunity to progress to a Senior Social Worker is available to all Social Workers across the service once they are able to meet the progression criteria.

  • Up to 30 days annual leave  entitlement plus an extra 5 days for foster carers

  • Family friendly policies

  • Assistance with travel to work expenses including discounted Park & Ride annual travel pass and 0% loans for train travel.

  • Staff car parking permits

  • Local government pension scheme with generous employer contribution

  • Comprehensive staff benefits package
