Make a Real Difference. Join Us as a Children’s Social Worker.

We have exciting opportunities for Newly Qualified Social Workers to join our children’s social care services and Social Work Academy. This is your chance to begin your career in a supportive environment that gives you the space, structure and professional challenge needed to become an exceptional practitioner.

As a Social Work Academy member, you will work full‑time in one of our frontline children’s social care teams, receive a competitive salary, and access high‑quality learning, mentoring and practice development. The Academy is central to our commitment to excellent social work and is designed to help you grow with confidence and purpose.

We are looking for people who are passionate about safeguarding children, supporting families, and contributing to safe, effective and ethical practice.

Why East Riding?

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is an ambitious, forward‑thinking local authority striving to deliver high‑quality services for children, young people and their families. We place children’s safety, welfare and potential at the heart of everything we do. We invest heavily in our workforce because we recognise that brilliant social work is only possible when practitioners feel valued, supported and respected.

Our staff describe East Riding as “a family” – a place where colleagues support one another, practice leaders are visible and engaged, and wellbeing is taken seriously. We offer flexible working approaches so you can balance your professional and personal life. We are proud of our commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and anti‑racist practice, with clear leadership through our Principal Social Worker and Principal Practice Lead.

We make sure Newly Qualified Social Workers feel supported throughout their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). You will receive:

  • A personalised induction
  • Protected, gradually building workload
  • A protected learning day every fortnight
  • Monthly practice learning workshops
  • High quality reflective supervision
  • Monthly reflective group sessions
  • A dedicated Social Work Mentor

Office bases are in Beverley, Goole, Anlaby and Bridlington (preferences considered). You will work with children needing statutory support, safeguarding, children looked after and young people leaving care.

Who We’re Looking For

Creative, determined and compassionate NQSWs who:

  • Build strong relationships with children and families
  • Communicate clearly and work with empathy
  • Are child centred and committed to high standards
