Job description

Hull Fostering Service have various opportunities available, both fixed term and permanent, part-time and full time.

The post holder will be required to undertake robust assessments and support of mainstream and respite foster carers, connected persons foster carers and undertake viability assessments where required. They will also be involved in recruitment activity, undertake initial visits, and prepare and present information to foster panel and in the court arena. 

This post is key in ensuring high quality Fostering household support and assessments to enable excellent matching for children with the right foster carers. The post is fast paced and involves working to timescales and undertaking direct work with children and families. 

We are seeking candidates who have an excellent knowledge of Fostering National Minimum Standards, Regulations and guidance, the development needs of children, attachment/trauma and therapeutic parenting, and care/ permanence planning. You should have experience of working with foster carers and children and young people who are looked after, and of ensuring that children's voices inform and influence your practice. You will have high standards for yourself, evidenced through maintenance of your own professional development and will be able to use professional curiosity, support and challenge with foster carers, and other professionals to achieve good outcomes for children. Your recording skills should be of a high standard. 

The post will provide and support the delivery of high-quality social work activities within the Hull Social Care Practice Model and will work within the Fostering Service with the aim of achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people in need and their families by the provision of the good family-based placements.

About you:

We require all social workers to have:

  • A degree or diploma in Social Work, full Social Work England registration and a proven ability to work in partnership with children, young people, parents, carers and partners;

  • A strong child-centred value base that informs the work with children, young people and families;

  • A relentless commitment to quality and a child’s lived experience – and be able to talk about what good practice ‘looks like’ for children, young people and families;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage and motivate children, young people and their families;

  • Effective assessment, analysis, and planning skills
