Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and supporting others in their own practice?  We are giving an opportunity for Advanced Social Work Practitioner to join our dynamic Children's Safeguarding team based at Stanley Street in Wakefield city centre.  You will be supported to develop your practice on an operational basis in an area which strives to deliver excellent service delivery with a management team who are flexible, supportive and who encourage innovative thinking and problem solving. You will be expected and enabled to contribute to workforce development and staff wellbeing.

This post is open to internal candidates only who are currently practising as an enhanced social worker.

The Role

As an Advanced Social Work Practitioner, you'll be responsible for managing complex cases, providing expert advice, and mentoring other social workers. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of children at risk.

Overall Purpose of the Post

  • Conduct thorough assessments and develop effective care plans.
  • Provide expert consultation and guidance on complex safeguarding cases.
  • To support the team manager with day-to-day operational issues. 
  • To manage the predominately complex cases which requires a social worker of considerable experience, knowledge and skills.
  • To deputise for the Team Manager and present the team in working groups set up to raise the quality of practice and improve the effectiveness of the service. 
  • To play a key role in delivering high quality services and meeting performance targets for the newly qualified and student social workers.
  • To mentor and support less experienced social workers and provide consultation and guidance on complex safeguarding cases.
  • To ensure that services are delivered in compliance with relevant legislation, local and national policy and guidance.

Key Outcomes/ Activities

  • Provide leadership, effective coaching/mentoring to newly qualified social workers and students. 
  • Manage their own workload and contribute to the performance of the team, and support staff to deliver integrated, high quality services that meet service objectives and priorities and targets. 
  • Implementing and embedding safeguarding policies and procedures in their own work and with those they are supporting.
  • Quality control and quality assurance. 
  • Staff induction, development of ASYE’s and Students as per frameworks which will feed into appraisals.   
  • Assessment and development of practice. 
  • To contribute to any action undertaken around discipline and grievance, capability and other procedures. 
  • To ensure that staff operate within statutory requirements, council and directorate policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that services offer equal opportunities to all service users and employees and that diversity within the service is encouraged and promoted.
  • Implement Health and Safety policy and procedures and ensure employees are aware of and observe statutory and council requirements to achieve a safe working environment.
  • To work with Team Manger and other colleagues to develop the service and meet objectives and targets. 

This post is being offered as a 37-hour role
