Senior Social Worker Young refugee team

Join a Specialist Team Making a Real Difference !

The Young Refugee Team is a small, dedicated team providing statutory services to some of the most vulnerable young people in Sheffield. Due to staff changes, we are seeking a Senior Social Worker to join us and help deliver high-quality support and safeguarding for young refugees and asylum-seeking children.

About the Role

This is a specialist role where you will work with Children Looked After and carry out statutory responsibilities on behalf of the local authority. Your work will include:

  • Managing complex cases, including care planning and statutory visits.
  • Completing Brief Age EnquiriesFull Age Assessments, and supporting legal challenges and judicial reviews.
  • Acting as an Appropriate Adult in NAAB-assessed cases, which can require significant time commitment.
  • Responding to National Transfer Scheme (NTS) referrals, hotel assessments, and spontaneous arrivals.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills in age assessment, legal processes, and safeguarding within a supportive environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Significant experience working with vulnerable young people, ideally within children’s services.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, statutory duties, and the impact of trauma and displacement.
  • Ability to manage complex workloads and work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work and Social Work England registration
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • At least 2 years post qualification experience in a frontline setting

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
