Rotherham Borough Council is excited to be recruiting to the post of Fostering Social Worker to join the Fostering Team.

Rotherham Borough Council is excited to be recruiting to a Permanent, 29.6 hours/4 days Fostering Social Worker post who will join our friendly and supportive fostering team. This position will involve working in the supervisory team. The role will encompass all aspects of the supervisory role in terms of assessing, supporting, training and reviewing local authority approved foster carers. You will require you to undertake fostering duty tasks, take a lead with fostering support groups and assisting with the recruitment and retention campaign to help build on our current cohort of foster carers.

  

In addition, as a local authority fostering service, the supervising social worker may also be required to complete different aspects of the fostering social worker in terms of being a liaison worker for the Mockingbird Family Model, undertaking kinship care or private fostering assessment. This would be considered in accordance with applicants knowledge, experience or learning and development opportunities identified through supervision and the annual PDR process.    

    

The ideal candidate will have:

   

Enthusiasm and ambition to deliver high quality support and supervision to both prospective and approved foster carers.

  

Strong assessment and recording skills and be motivated to promoting an empathic understanding of the needs of looked after children across the service.

  

You will be genuinely interested in delivering a high-quality service that is grounded in providing an environment for children’s emotional health and wellbeing to thrive and flourish in safe, stable and permanent foster placements.

  

You will need to be equipped with the necessary skills to deliver a range of tasks connected to the assessment, training, support and supervision of foster carers.

  

You will have an in-depth knowledge of legislation and a good understanding of the National Minimum Standards for Fostering (NMS 2011).

  

You will have the ability to develop and maintain key lines of communication with professionals across Children and Young People’s services including foster carers and be confident in your ability to advocate for those unable or not in a position to do this themselves.

The post holder would be given opportunities to undertake a variety of work in the service to include supervising, supporting and training foster carers, working closely with our commissioning team on duty, completing assessments of Kinship carers and carers providing Private Fostering accommodation to children and young people  

The fostering team are passionate about the Recruitment and Retention campaign of foster our carers therefore applicants will be encouraged to support activities to build on our fostering community

All social care professionals would receive training in the ‘Signs of Safety’ operating model and ‘Restorative Practice’ approach used across the organisation

  

Early Help and Edge of Care services are strong, which is now reducing the demand for social care as this provides another layer of support to professionals connected to some of our service users

Rotherham is committed to developing approaches to their ‘Intensive Adolescent Response’ and ‘Family Group Conferencing’ services

Investment has been secured to ensure our most challenging young people have access to high quality therapeutic support via Rotherham’s Therapeutic team who offer a great deal of support to our foster carers and staff team by way of training and consultation sessions

  

Looked After Children are prioritised for CAMHS assessment and intervention across the organisation
