The City of York Council’s adoption service is part of One Adoption North and Humber, a high performing regional adoption agency, and we are looking to for an adoption social worker to join our team in York.
One Adoption is committed to providing timely, high quality services to meet the needs of Looked after Children who need permanence through adoption.
You will be part of a highly-acclaimed supportive service that has a comprehensive programme to ensure new recruits have a thorough induction, receive ongoing support from managers and have the opportunity to progress in your career.
This work involves the recruitment and assessment of prospective adopters, providing training and support, family finding for those children with an adoption plan and offering adoption support to families when children are placed pre and post the making of an Adoption Order.
You must be willing to work across the range of adoption services and be enthusiastic and committed to improving outcomes for children.
In addition the successful applicant must possess;
A final level professional qualification in social work, e.g. a first degree in social work or C.Q.S.W., C.S.S., Diploma in Social Work (DipSW) or similar as defined in the National Conditions of Service.
Ideally 3 years post qualifying experience as a social worker
A good knowledge and understanding of legislation in respect of children, families and human rights and its practical application, of working with children and their families and of communication methods.
A child-centred approach and a sound knowledge of child development.
Team working ability, good time management and organisational skills.
An ability to analyse information and make sound, rational decisions.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
