Senior Fieldwork Manager- Adoption Support and Family Finding

30 hours per week. Temporary for 12 months. 

Sheffield City Council Adoption Team is now part of a Regional Adoption Agency called One Adoption South Yorkshire.  This covers Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. The Sheffield based Adoption Support Team currently has a temporary vacancy for a part time (30 hours per week), senior fieldwork manager.  The successful appointee will have line responsibility for the supervision of a team of 4 social workers, 2 support workers and a Letterbox co-ordinator.  The team provide a range of services to adoptive families; birth families and adopted adults. This includes the assessment, provision, and review of adoption support services.

It is an exciting time to work in the field of adoption support as the regional agency is investing in services for all those affected by adoption, including plans to build a multi-agency hub.  The importance of providing effective adoption support for children and their families from an early stage is better understood as is the impact of early neglect and trauma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the continual improvement and development of the quality and efficiency of the assessments of adoption support needs, as well as the provision of services for adoptive families, adopted adults and birth families.

  • Work with the local and regional management teams to ensure that the service development plan is implemented both locally and regionally.

  • Provide consistent and good quality supervision, to support practice and professional development and create an environment where good quality practice can flourish

  • Work with the Service Manager to drive the performance of the team, to ensure a high quality of work and that there are good quality assurance systems operational within the agency.

  • Work in partnership with other teams and services to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and their families

  • Ensure the voice of children and families is integral to what we do.

  • Participate in the implementation of the Regional Adoption Agency plans for the South Yorkshire region.

Key Requirements:

  • The ability to manage and motivate staff

  • You do not need to have worked specifically in the field of adoption support but will require knowledge and experience of working in adoption, including the regulatory and legal framework.

  • An understanding of the long term needs of adopted children, adoptive families and birth families.

  • Experience of working across a number of agencies.

  • Willingness to work on developing adoption support services across the region.

  • Ability to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns

  • To be qualified as a social worker and to be registered with Social Work England
