This is an exciting time to join the Fostering Service - this new Support Worker role has been created to support the service in prioritising children securing legal permanence through special guardianship and ensuring that all Special Guardianship Families have access to responsive, specialised support that enables them to thrive within their communities.

The post holder will be responsible for tracking and monitoring special guardianship support and will work closely with an advanced practitioner, social workers, and special guardianship families to ensure the quality of SGO support plans pre and post-order is consistent, with timely SGO reviews taking place.

They will be responsible for working with Special Guardianship Families to achieve outcomes within planned pieces of work and leading on support as part of the Team Around the Child where there is a need for targeted family support.

The post holder will spend time working with professionals within the wider service to ensure that pre-order preparation and support for prospective Special Guardians is in place, accessible for all, and provided to a high standard.

The Support Worker will need to be a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and organisational skills and will be someone who can take responsibility for the development of specific areas of the Special Guardianship Support Offer. The ability to work autonomously both in a 1:1 and group setting with families would be a great asset.

The post holder will be passionate in breaking down barriers for families to access support and someone who can think outside the box to achieve best outcomes.

They will understand the impact of early trauma and issues affecting children and young people who are unable to live with their birth parents and an ability to work empathetically and creatively with Special Guardianship families to ensure they continue to receive the most appropriate support to meet their needs. The post holder will receive further training and development opportunities and must be keen and enthusiastic to access additional opportunities to support them in their role.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
