A private area of the Children's Social
Work Matters website, bringing 15 local
authorities closer together
The recruitment of children’s social workers in councils across Yorkshire and the Humber has received a major boost thanks to a campaign which aims to tackle negative perceptions about the job.
The Children’s Social Work Matters campaign was launched by the regions’ 15 local authorities in October. And already councils are reporting a rise in job enquiries with over 200 CVs submitted
A newly-qualified children’s social worker from Wakefield has stepped in front of the cameras to help raise the profile of the vital work carried out by children’s social work teams across the region.
Becky Elliott (25), who works in the Looked After Children team at Wakefield Council, has taken on a starring role in the Children’s Social Work Matters campaign – a region-wide drive to encourage more people to consider children’s social work as a career and tackle misconceptions about the role
A children’s social worker from Kirklees is encouraging the public to learn more about his role as a children’s social worker including how he encourages people to take on “the toughest job in the world”.
Terry Keast (58) works in Kirklees Council’s Family Placement Unit, which helps to find and support local people who have chosen to take on the vital role of a foster carer
Judy Prosser from East Yorkshire, is passionate about her role as a children’s social worker, so much so that she jumped at the chance to take part in a video for the region’s Children’s Social Work Matters campaign.
The video, which appears on the campaign’s website, www.childrenssocialworkmatters.org gives people the opportunity to hear from a real life social worker about the challenges and complexities of the role and why from Judy’s perspective, she wouldn’t change her career for any other job
Children’s social workers across the country are handling a record number of cases, with more than 74,000 children in Yorkshire and the Humber alone receiving their vital help and support in the last year.
And now, in a unique two-year campaign, all 15 councils across Yorkshire and the Humber have united to make sure those standards of care will continue to improve for the most vulnerable local children
