Qualified Children’s Social Worker (various posts), Child Health and Disability Service (CHAD), Children and Families Services, Leeds (Please note, applications will only be considered from applicants with a relevant qualification in Social Work)
The Child Health and Disability Service, often known as CHAD, is made up of five teams working with children and young people aged 0-18 with complex health needs and/or disabilities, where their disability has an impact on their ability to be safe, develop skills for life and be part of their local communities growing up. There are three locality CHAD Social Work teams covering different areas within the city: East North-East, West North-West, and South. There is also a CHAD Occupational Therapy Team and a Regional Specialist Team based at Leeds General Infirmary.
The CHAD Social Work teams undertake a wide variety of tasks as part of their role to ensure best outcomes for children with complex needs and/or disabilities. This includes undertaking statutory assessments, visiting children in their homes and short breaks settings and completing safeguarding and care management activities. In line with statutory safeguarding procedures and investigations, the teams work directly with children who need help and protection and that are subject to care proceedings. They also work with children who are looked after by the local authority. In addition, the CHAD Social Work teams engage in Mental Capacity Assessments to consider Liberty Protection Safeguards.
The CHAD Service has a clear vision that every child in Leeds with a complex health need and/or disability should benefit from child-centred, high-quality, flexible, and responsive support to help them live a successful and enjoyable life where their voice and influence is promoted.

As a Social Worker within CHAD, you will be responsible for managing a caseload whilst supporting children with complex health needs and/or disabilities and their families to achieve their full potential.
This role will provide you with ample opportunity to work with our close partners to ensure the multiple and complex needs of these children are both properly assessed and met but remembering that working with the child and family is central to our vision and practice. “Relationship-based practice is a clear feature of the work in Leeds” (OFSTED Dec 2018) In addition, there are regular development opportunities to support Social Work career progression.
We will consider applications from Social Workers who have the right level of skill and motivation for the post. The successful candidates will be passionate about improving outcomes for children with complex health needs and/or disabilities and creating and sustaining positive change for young people across the city. The successful candidates will also play a role in supporting the continued development of the CHAD Service.
