At Hull City Council we are committed to our children and young people and we are passionate about how we deliver services to them. That’s why we are developing and nurturing a culture that puts our children and young people at the heart of everything we do – by empowering our workforce to work together to find solutions, to be open, honest and respectful, to take responsibility and listen and learn from others.
If you value these behaviours too, we’d love to hear from you. Hull is a changing local authority and it’s a fantastic time to join us and be a key player in supporting our journey.

We are now seeking to recruit a full-time, permanent Independent Reviewing Service Manager. The impact of the work of our IROs has improved markedly over the last 18 months, particularly in relation to monitoring the progress of children looked after and challenging on their behalf effectively when progress is not good, or quick, enough. The service now needs to focus on playing a lead role in the implementation of Signs of Safety, and strengthening the voice, influence and participation of children looked after, including in their reviews.
You will be leading a team of experienced and committed IROs, and taking the lead for the service in relation to children looked after. A social work qualification, together with substantial experience of safeguarding and work with children looked after, along with previous management experience, are all essential.
You will need to be able to establish effective working relationships across safeguarding and with a range of partners. The ability to challenge appropriately at all levels is essential. Above all we need someone who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes possible for children and young people, strongly believes that children are best looked after within their own family wherever possible and is highly ambitious for each and every child looked after.
