This job is temporary for up to 12 months to cover the secondment of the existing post holder. There is a strong possibility of future permanent vacancies becoming available within the Dewsbury District Hospital social work team.
There’s a really supportive feel to our team; we have approachable and supportive managers who have an open door, regular advice surgeries and are willing to listen; we’re an experienced team, we all pull together to support each other and share our expertise. Hospital social work is fast paced, no two days are ever the same but when the going gets tough we’re there for each other.
You’ll be based in Dewsbury District Hospital, well placed to build strong links across the hopsital, our team covers the Mid Yorkshire NHS footprint so you’ll spend some of you time at Pinderfields, occasionally Pontefract hospitals.
The way we work, with workers being linked with individual wards means you’ll build strong working relationships with NHS colleagues helping us to start working with service users as early as possible to support them wherever possible get home as quickly as possible with the support they need. We also have Kirklees Independent Living team and Care Navigators based with us to give us and our service user quick access to the support they need. Our team also has a dedicated business support team.
The pace of work means you need to be organised and resilient but most of all you’ll care about the people we’re working with.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car (exceptions can be made for disabled applicants).
