National Care Leavers Week

Sheffield celebrated Care Leavers’ week last month with some Halloween-themed fun. Staff created Halloween Kits to hand out to young people, which included some great pumpkin recipes as well as other goodies. In total, 91 of these kits were delivered to young people. This also tied into a pumpkin carving contest with fab prizes judged by Paul Dempsey, which was a big hit with young people:

‘I enjoyed carving the pumpkin – it gave me something to do and experience my creativity’
‘I really enjoyed carving my pumpkin, it gave me a chance to put my imagination out there’

Another highlight from spooky season was a cook-along video from “TV Chef Tanya” which is well worth checking out!

Star Awards: Big Night In

Like so many other events in 2020, the annual Star Awards at Sheffield had to go virtual, but this didn’t stop it from being a great laugh! Our very own Paul Dempsey as you have never hosted the event alongside his ‘sidekick’ Anne-Marie Banks. Despite there being many challenges and much unknown about hosting a virtual event for children, young people and their carers (in fostering and residential) the evening was a success.

Activities included live Furry Friends Competition, songs from our ‘This Is Us’ choir, an emotional lockdown memories film, and a magical medal moment where our carers presented every child and young person with a ‘Lockdown Superstar Medal’.

Feedback has been great:

‘The event was fantastic full of laughs, happiness, tears and love.’
‘Thanks for a fabulous big night in, the girls had a fabulous time and love the medals!’
‘We really enjoyed tonight, it was lovely to see some old memories from previous years too.’
‘It was a great night, even the bigger kids watched, thank you to everyone involved!’
